The calculation of ionization balance and radiative properties of materials in Non-Local Thermal Equilibrium (NLTE) to be used in radiation hydrodynamic simulations is currently still one of the major challenges for any such simulation. The plasma's radiative and EOS properties at NLTE can be dependent on the detailed local radiation field and electron energy distribution. Each of these quantities may require 10's to 100's of parameters to be fully characterized making the table pre-calculation prohibitive. In this work we present a new method which allows for the characterization of the local radiation field using up to no more than three parameters. This method allows for the precalculation of the radiative properties. This method can also allow radiation-hydrodynamic codes perform NLTE radiation transport calculation, which is computationally prohibitive using existing methods. |
